RV016 Bandwidth Management Configuration Guide
This document is a configuration guide for configuring Bandwidth Management.
To Start, first enter the System Management Page in RV016’s GUI.
Locate Bandwidth Management page under System Management
You will be required to check if the Bandwidth for WAN interfaces is correct.
The Bandwidth information you configure in Multi-WAN page will be displayed here for your reference for setting up the Mini. Rate or Max. Rate. The quantity of WAN interface will be displayed according to your configuration in Setup and Multi-WAN page. The bandwidth information here is configurable, and it will be consistent with the bandwidth information in Multi-WAN page.
There are two Bandwidth Management Types; user can chose either Rate Control or Priority to manage the application bandwidth within their network.
The difference between Rate Control and Priority is that Rate Control allow user to distinctively control the Minimum Rate and Maximum Rate for both upstream and downstream bandwidth, also, which WAN interface the rule should apply on.
Priority allow user to control Service’s upstream and downstream using selection of High priority and Low priority. Services without Priority rule enhancement will be automatically assign to Middle priority.
Ensure Quality of Service on Vonage VoIP Phone Service via Bandwidth Management Rate Control.
Because Vonage VoIP Phone Service is not included in the default service list, press the Service Management button in Service field and add a new service for Vonage VoIP.
From Vonage Web Site http://www.vonage.com we found out the ports used for Vonage VoIP Phone Service.
SIP: Port 5061 UDP is used for older Vonage Phone devices. Setup new service as diagram shown below:
Port Range is set from 5060 UDP to 5070 UDP to ensure all active ports are covered.
RTP (Voice) Traffic: random from Port 10000 to 25000 UDP is used when call is made; therefore it is required to be adding to both Incoming and Outgoing traffic.
Port Range is set from 10000 UDP to 25000 UDP to ensure all active ports are covered. Press “Apply†button to add the new services to the list.
Returning to the Bandwidth Management Page, create new Bandwidth Management rule with new service: Vonage VoIP.
Select the Interface for the rule to be applied on, in this case, both WAN1 and WAN2. Select the Service which is Vonage VoIP. Fill in the IP range for this rule to be applied on, select the Direction. Set a Mini. Rate to guarantee the bandwidth for this service, and the Max. Rate for limiting the service bandwidth usage; in the case we set a range of 40 kbit/sec and 80 kbit/sec.
We want to ensure both incoming and outgoing traffic are bandwidth guaranteed, therefore ensure both Upstream and Downstream bandwidth are covered.
Following the above steps of setting up rules for service: Vonage VoIP, the following shows the steps for setting up rules for service: Vonage 2.
Press “Add New†button to add Upstream rule for service Vonage 2 as well.
We want to ensure both incoming and outgoing traffic are bandwidth guaranteed, therefore ensure both Upstream and Downstream bandwidth are configured.
Press “Save Settings†button to save configuration and to complete Bandwidth Management setup for Vonage VoIP Phone Service.
