150N V1.1 - needing daily power cycle reboots

Forgive me if it's already been discussed and a solution found. I tried the search function but I am new to all this and need further explanation. Does my unit need a firmware update or is this typical of most linksys routers (as I have been discovering in google searches) to need a power cycle?

I returned my Belkin N router for the linksys because it was a few dollars more but it never required a power cycle.

you could try a firmware update, it would not do it any harm. make sure your reset to factory defaults after the update is completed. there is also available dd-wrt v24 sp1 firmware available for the wrt150n if you did not already know.

Thanks. i'm wondering if I already have the latest firmware since I just purchased the router. It says "v1.1" after the model number.

Does the firmware update actually address the power cycle issue that so many linksys routers seem to have?

I looked at dd-wrt v24 sp1 but became confused at which to download. I suppose the "public" would be the one? http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/v24-sp1/X86/public

v1.1 is the model number. if you login to the router you will see the firmware revision number usually in the top right or on the status page.

as to the ddwrt firmware i am not sure since the download should be in here:

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads/v24-sp1/Broadcom/Linksys/WRT150N_v1.1/

but it is not. I dont know why so many different versions are within the "WRT150N_v1.1" folder. best ask on the ddwrt forum if you want that firmware.

v1.52 firmware for the 150N is here: http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=22

I have a problem. I installed "dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin" but it's asking for a username and password. There is a dialog that says the default username is "root" but that's not working. What can I do now? Thanks for your help.

**edit - never mind. I found it: "root" and "admin"

The only issue now is the security light no longer lights up on the router. I have it set at:

Problem is not fixed. I still have to power cycle the router every few days

are you a heavy user? ftp/torrents/file sharer at all?

Yes, I use uTorrent. I wonder why the Belkin never had a probem. I thought Linksys would be a better brand since it's a division of Cisco.

most of Linksys's hardware is from ODMs just like D-Link, Buffalo, Belkin do as well. Cisco will have a say in what hardware should be used etc, but if you thought it would be a better brand you only have to look at price of hardware at linksys compared to others they are at a similar price. Cisco hardware on the other hand is much more expensive.

anyway. do you limit the utorrentz at all? the old WRT54G was known to have issues with the amount of connections torrentz created. this may have similar issues with your device.

try limiting the amount of connections that you upload. or using QoS. it sounds like your router is getting choked by torrents if you are a heavy user,

I set connections to 100/100/6. I'll just wait a few days and see. Thanks for your time.

Does not work. I can access the routers page but there is no internet connection.

[should I have edited the above post rather than entering a new one?]

what does not work? your utorrent? if you have no internet then I guess either your WAN connection or modem is faulty

It's the router. I have only local connection with the router when it drops. I have to power cycle the modem and router to get an internet connection with both my wired desktop and wireless laptop.

are you on cable or adsl?

    what is mtu set at?

iof your using adsl do you have Connect on Demand or Keepalive set? have you tried a different ether cable between the wan port and your modem?

I'm on cable. I'm having the same problem so many other people are having: a day or more connected then having to power cycle to get internet connection back.

    WRT150N V1.1 stabilty problem even with dd-wrt

I'm trying dd-wrt_mini_generic V24 SP1 (the default user name is "root" and password "admin"), It worked well by arround 10 h and disconected all the 4 adaptors (0ne intel G hp builted in, other broadcom G hp builted in, one DWL-G122 and one DWA-140 N), as I dont have wired connection to see what was hapening I had to shut down the router power and turn on again. A few minutes afther rebooting all adapters conected again automatically.
Before installing WRT150N a had a D-link DWL-900 AP+ (802.11 b) that never crashed, it still working for months. Than I changed it by a new technology but mut more worse???.
I will try dd-wrt a litle bit more and afther that testing de Linksys firmware V1.54 beta, available in Linksysinfo.org.
By the way the default password for V1.54 is admin too?
