2 router network, QoS on 2nd router only.

    I have 2 routers, BEFSR41(Wired) and WRT54GS. Somehow, my WRT54GS keeps dropping PPPoE connection to my ADSL modem. At the moment, I'm using the BEFSR41 to connect to the modem. However, I want to make use of QoS on the WRT54GS. How do I setup my network?
    At the moment, it looks like this

    ADSL modem <----> BEFSR41(DHCP server,192.168.1.1) <-----> WRT54GS(192.168.1.120) <-----> wired / wireless clients(192.168.1.x)

    The WRT54GS is connected to the BEFSR41 through the LAN port. AFAIK, it needs to be connected at the WAN port for QoS to work. My thought is to have the BEFSR41 just dial the ADSL modem, and route all data to the WAN port of the WRT54GS(DHCP server), which will then do NAT. However, I am not sure about the config of both routers to achieve that. Please advise, thanks.

    similar but different question...

    Great question...obviously if you swap the two routhers you'd be all set, but I'm sure there is a reason you have not. I'm not a routing table expert....but I'm pretty sure there is a way to set that up. Making QoS work after that might be another issue.

    In relation to your question I have this QoS problem/ question:
    4Mcable modem <----> WrtSL546gs -thibor 16b(DHCP server, MAC based QoS, BT low, etc, 192.168.1.1)<wired---> Voip Gizmo + 2 wired Pc's + WRT54GS-thibor15c(router, DHCP off, QoS off)(192.168.1.2)<wired-----> Xbox (Kai) + more wired Pc's / wireless clients(192.168.1.x)

    My quesiton is in the SL QoS setup I'm using mostly Mac priority....and it works good, not perfect but good - I already have the VOIP to Highest, Xbox MAC to Medium, etc and it works fine - but the XBOX is behind the WRT54GS? Should I add the MAC of the WRT54GS in that priority list? I didn't have it listed and just added it as Medium today just to see what happens because when I fired up an old PC that was not in the MAC list & behind the WRT it screwed up my VOIP(slight choppy voice) - so I figured I'd add that old PC's MAC and the WRT's also. Make sense?

    Well, the reason I am not swapping the routers is because my WRT54GS(which can do QoS) is unable to dial a PPPoE connection with my ADSL modem. I couldn't pinpoint the exact cause but my BEFSR41(which doesn't have QoS) dials just fine.

    try some Thibor?

    Did you try some 3rd party firmware for the WRT like Tibor15c?
    My guess is that will fix you right up!

    Tried DD-WRT v23 SP2, HyperWRT+Thibor15c, tomato 1.02, nothing works :( I guess, either the WAN port is faulty, or it just doesn't like my modem, Hyundai HASE-220. So I had to resort to the BEFSR41 making the PPPoE connection.

    clear Nvram?

    Sounds like something is messed....
    Try clearing the NVRAM and reload Thibor....then Clear NVram again after you've loaded it.
    ..then manuall reset all your settings again.

    Try any hard resets by holding the reset button in for ~30sec?
