I just bought two WRT54Gs off of NewEgg, and I am wondering if it is possible to use them as Point-to-Point devices. I want to have one WRT54G connected to the modem, and have the second WRT54G connected to the first WRT54G wirelessly. Is this possible or should I have purchased the WAP54G?

I'm pretty sure this can be done using dd-wrt fimware and WDS.

    Emphatically yes!

The question is merely one of what exactly do you want to do, because there are at least three possible ways to understand what you have asked, and there are perhaps three or four different ways to implement solutions using WRT54G's.

If you do not want other wireless units to connect to either end of this PtP link, there are several ways to implement it. Each WRT54G could be in Client mode, and they would then use Ad-Hoc to connect to each other. Or either of the two could be in AP mode with the other in Client mode and a Managed network.

Obviously if you do want other wireless clients to connect to one end or the other, that end has to be an AP mode WRT54G. If you want both ends to allow other wireless clients to connect, things get more complex... you then must use third party firmware and enable a WDS connection between the two WRT54G units.
