I've got 2 WRT54GL's with Tomato. Can someone please tell me how to configure them to work together with 1 as a router and the other as a wireless access point? The one that will be the access point will need to communicate wirelessly with the router (except perhaps during the initial set up).

I did find a mismatch of instructions about how to do this, but nothing that was totally clear. Thanks

Look at setting up a WDS at http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq#how_do_i_use_wds.

Will the first router be used as an access point as well? If so set the wireless mode of BOTH as Access Point + WDS, otherwise set the 1st one to WDS and the second one as Access Point + WDS.

I had a 2 router configuration set as a WDS + Access point on both routers. Each router is at the opposite ends of the house One was the network access control, the other was the slave.. I could roam from one end of the house to the other with a laptop and the system handed off from one router to the other seamlessly. Please note I said HAD. The latest builds of Tomato USB(the ones with the VLAN GUI) currently breaks WDS functionality. If you are using the original version (1.28) you should have NO problems. As a bonus, you can access the remote router easily if you need to make any changes once the link is established.

I do have a peice of advice, when you first set it up, use NO encryption. Once the link is confirmed as working, you can add the security. Just remember to do the REMOTE end first then the local wired one last.
