I have one WRT54G's right now that is set up and doing a wonderful job. It is using the offical Linksys firmware: v3.01.3.
I would like to set up a secong WRT54G what will act as an access point without having to be wired to the first router.
Is there a guide that will help me do this? Will this guide let me know if I should be using a different firmware on on both or just one of the routers?
    One WRT54G is v2
    Second WRT54G is v3
    Thanks for any help!

What you want is to setup WDS (Wireless Distributed Service) How To: Setup WDS with Satori or Alchemy. You could use almost any 3rd part firmware for WDS providing it supports your version 3 router. I even read some posts before that people have had sucess setting up WDS with non-wrt54gx units.

I like DD-WRT, but I've only done WDS with Satori. I'd use the v2 as the primary router as they seem to be very stable.

Do you know where I might find those posts?

I believe it was in the sveasoft forum. If I recall an Airport express was used in a WDS join.

A followup to this: provided the firmware supports it (setup options) the following router hardware have broadcom chipsets which would probably mean the associated broadcom driver should similarly support WDS. I confirmed on Apple's support site that the Airport Extreme has the WDS option available to be configured. As for the rest, you'll have to look it up as I only have expierence with the WRT54Gx units and really don't want to search through all the support sites to verify WDS options.
