Ok I have two WRT54G's. Both are stock one is a 3.0 and one is prior to that. I have read many different posts and I find the same questiosn but its has no replies. So hopefully you guys can help out.

I want to hook up my desktop and xbox 360 up in my room . Right now I have a cable modem and a WRT54G in the living room. I want to wireless connect one router to the other router which is in my room and be able to connect up to 4 things on that router.

I know I could use WDS but he is my issue. I would like to keep the firmware in the living all stock because I dont own it and I dont want to brick it.

Can anyone help me out on this. I need to know what firmware is the best to use. Also which mode should I put it in.

Also I am looking for an all in one firmware which will allow me to expand the wireless range as well as allow me to use the router as a switch in my room. So it would kind act like a WAP54G.

You need to add WDS on both WRT54G by using custom firmware - stock WRT54G can only connect to another using a LAN cable.

The alternative is to use a wireless ethernet bridge like the WET54G or the WET54GS5
