2012 Tomato USB Firmware Modification Poll: Which one on your Router? Why? Toastman vs Shibby vs Teaman - This comparative is what I'd like, but seeing that Victor mod is also rather feature rich and is "mainplace" I am adding that too I have not added all the Mods because these seem to be the top and feature rich ones that I'd like to compare between. Also, it would really help for people to post WHY they choose one over the other. Even better if they went from ONE of these to ANOTHER and WHY! ? ONE MAJOR THOUGHT: I'd like to compare / contrast between Toastman vs Shibby vs Teaman - If you could share your thoughts on that it would be great.
Shibby is the most stable while still having many of the features we need so that will be our champion.
Have used about every Tomato mod at some point in time. I am currently running Victek's latest on a Linksys e4200. Every time I try some other mod I end up going back to Victek. For me it has all the features I want/need, provides superior speed (not sure why) and never fails. Solid as a rock. --bill
i am using shibby as well. i don't think it's the most stable - i have tried only Victek's a long ago, but from what i am read here i think Toastman's would be more solid. i like shibby's frequent releases and the addition of cutting edge functions that may come in handy sometime (for example bittorent, that Toastman opposes against). i am ready to sacrifice some stability for these.
I had been using Toastman for very long time, but last week I had to reflash my router and I flashed Shibby - rock and solid like Toastman mod... I think Toastman = Shibby without some features... stability and speed are almost same
Not used Teaman. Started with Victek, then tried both Shibby and Toastman for a while. But settled with Shibby's builds as: - it has a little bit more functions - He has an easy-to-understand builds matrix chart - His download section is a bit better organised - I am now most familiar with Shibby's gui IMO, there's hardly any strong reason as to which is better (shibby or toastman), I think it's just a matter of which build suits you better.
After years and years running Tomato 1.28 on a WT54GL, I bought the RT-N16 on sale. I was looking for Tomato-USB mod, compared them feature-wise, at the time, and Teaman, Shibby, Toastman all seems to contain everything I needed, and more. I read here a bit trying to figure out which was more stable, and as a noob in the Tomato-USB world tried to figure out which build I should get. Finally, I picked Toastman's since it seems stable, and the process of picking the build right for me easy to follow. Never looked back, Up time is 85 days at the moment. Never needs a power cycle. Only time that happens is when there's a power out. (*) Running Transmission on the router is tempting. Considering Shibby.
Victek hands down for stability and business. Shibby always second choice. Very stable and efficient.
For me I enjoy Toastman builds. I like the fast that he releases new firmwares pretty quick giving me something new to play with. I also like the fact that he has a good variety if flavors. Now that I have the WNR3500Lv2 instead of the v1 I been playing around a bit with Shibby builds. However, I do not use the AIO version. I am not into the built in bittorent client.
I thought Victek RAF is quite stable? Personally I'm not favor of updating regularly, since there're lots of setting to be done, so I personally would like to have one setup and let it run, as long as it's stable the requirements are met. but I guess since we're enjoying Tomato, we're meant to be "flashing" all the time, haha, nevertheless, I have to personally thank everyone, from Jonathan Zarate to Teddybear to Toastman to Victek and to everyone from linksyinfo.org. Various versions of Tomato have served my home router ( at least 7 or 8 of them, till now) solid as rock for the past many years!
Development has stalled for that particular mod. Victek hasn't had an stable update in many months either. It's no surprise that the most up to date ones are the most used.
Remember that you are on a forum with people who, to varying degrees, participate in the development, testing and use of the firmware so your results might be biased towards mods with a fast turn-over or wide scope of equipment supported. I use the toastman builds because they support a number of the routers that I like to experiment with. I also use dd-wrt as there are features there that I need.
i voted Toastman mod simply because Elfew prefferd it as a few years ago i made a sig pic similar to Elfew's avatar, not really a reason, but i'm sticking with it
I have to go with Toastmans. Its robust amount of features, Stability, Frequent updates, And of course the QOS.
I prefer Toastman's version for the QOS features, but the rest of the build is great too. Of course there are some features I would like to see but I respect that Toastman's builds are for Toastman's needs, not necessarily for anyone else. His needs are satisfying my needs. Thanks Toastman for the builds but also thanks to everyone that contributed to making Tomato a great solution. Also thanks to Linksysinfo for hosting a great community for us to learn from and to teach each other.
Hmm.. I need to put my VOTE for this thread. At the moment I dont have a choice. I will revisit and share.
I notice that everybody has their own opinion as to which of these is the most stable. Certainly one has to be more stable than the others?
I think Shibby, Toastman, Teaman or Victek builds are very stable... maybe they have same stability (same core, many modification are same and so on, ...) Just flash one of them and be happy... I prefer Shibby because his firmware has BW limiter, good support and frequent updates.
