    Hello,

I started using DDWRT routers early 2009. I am now using Tomato routeurs.

Most of the people making images like Toastman or Shibby are not updating their software anymore.
Shibby last update was a year ago : Version 140 (if you are lucky with your router)
Toastman last update was a year and half ago.
The only source that got updated in 2018 seems to be FreshTomato Mod. Which is a source I did not know about until having a look at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato_(firmware)

It seems that Shibby and Toastman (the historial leaders) are slowly stopping their contribution to the community. They already gave so much... But is there any trusted source that can offer us as much as they did?

What image would you advise as I plan to buy a new router to replace my old N66U? My goal is to secure the internet for my kids (disable youtube for example), Have a VPN server on, stop the wifi on some devices after 1 hour of use per day.

    Thanks

    OpenVPN performance of the RT-AC86U

FWIW: Recently broke down and finally upgraded my bulletproof R7000 running tomato firmware for the AC86U using Merlin's firmware mainly for the increase in OpenVPN throughput.

There was nothing wrong with the R7000 which had no issue achieving full 1Gbps up/down from my provider and was still being supported with excellent freshTomato builds post Shibby.
I just needed the OpenVPN throughput boost or else the R7000 would probably still be my gateway router!:D

Basically you tell me to use FreshTomato. right? I am not sure as your write freshTomato and then Shibby. But FreshTomato is a fork... so slightly different...

    Does it do DNSCrypt?
