Just a quick question. If I'm upgrading from one Tomato version to another on my E3000, do I really need to do a 30/30/30 nvram reset again or can I just check the box in the upgrade area to erase nvram when done flashing to the newer Tomato firmware?

I would strongly recommend doing the 30/30/30.

Why take a chance of bricking your E3000. I do a 30/30/30 before and after upgrading my E3000.

Failure to do the 30/30/30 is unlikely to cause a brick, but is known to cause odd non-reproducible problems.
