3rd party firmware will not void the linksys warrenty???????

    hey i just had a conversation with a linksys tech support here read the converastion and in there you will see that 3rd party firmware wiill not void the warrenty

    You: i wanted to use remote managment option in the router
    You: i wanted to control the router remotly
    Frida D(13087): Go to Administration tab and enable remote management. Is that what you did?
    You: yes
    Frida D(13087): OK. When you access your router, what do you do or type?
    You: then i typed the ip of the router like so:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 in my adress bar fomr a remote location
    Frida D(13087): Which is 192.168.1.1?
    Frida D(13087): Or is it http://WAN IP:8080
    You: yes
    You: it is http://wanip:8080 is hwat i typed
    Frida D(13087): What is the firmware version of the router?
    You: 3.03.6
    Frida D(13087): Did you upgrade it recently?

    Frida D(13087): Did you upgrade the firmware recently?
    You: a while ago
    You: i am sure it is not the firmware
    Frida D(13087): DId you try to reset the router.
    You: yes
    Frida D(13087): How?
    You: by pushing the button on the back of the router and going in though the web interface
    Frida D(13087): This is the way to reset the router everytime you upgrade the firmwware.
    Frida D(13087): 1] Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, after that
    2] Unplug the power; keep holding down the reset button for another 30 seconds
    3] Then plug back the power and keep holding down the reset button for 30 seconds, after that
    4] Release the reset button.
    You: ok
    Frida D(13087): Then try again the remote desktop. IF you have the same problem, contact us again.

    You: oh one mroe question
    Frida D(13087): Yes.
    You: the router runs linux
    You: right
    Frida D(13087): Yes. It should recognize the OS of the PC.
    You: now the firmware is under GPL right?
    You: if i could recompile the firmware and load it into the rotuer? will this void the warrenty
    Frida D(13087): It is recommended to upgrade the firmware using windows base PC.
    You: ok but will this or 3rd party firmware viod my warrenty
    Frida D(13087): When did you buy the router?
    You: bestbuy
    Frida D(13087): When
    You: less than i month
    Frida D(13087): In that case, it is still under store warranty, it shouldn't void it.
    You: cool
    You: but will it void the linksys warrenty
    Frida D(13087): Nope.
    Frida D(13087): Linksys warranty is 3years.
    You: so 3rd party firmware will not void the warrenty

    You: will it be ok if a post this conversation on a forum to prove that 3rd party firmware will not void the warrenty
    Frida D(13087): You may do what you want. As long as we have tried all solutions then there is nothing else to do.

    The Dutch support of Linksys told me that it will void your garanty.
    When I bought a new WRT54G the seller mentioned that Linksys won't look at the router and will put it in the shredder.
