54G: slow to issue ip

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum today.
I've got a WRT54G wireless router. SSID connection (signal strenth) response is pretty good but the router is slow to actually issue an ip. Sometimes a few seconds to a minute or two.

I've reset beacon interval per Linksys support suggestion along with the threshold, etc.

    “RTS Threshold†– 2304

    “Fragmentation Threshold†– 2304

    “Beacon Interval†– 50

128bit wep or not, no effect. SSID on or off, doesn't matter.

allow that particular mac access only to the router doesn't speed up the process either.

    I'm running a 11a/b/g wireless adapter(atheros) on an IBM T41.
Would there be any setting on the latop wireless adapter side that I might modify.. ?

Typically, I'll see alot of sends and no packets coming back prior to the ip being issued. Then receive packets count suddenly will show a few packets coming in and I'll get my ip.

Once I've got my ip.. No problems as far as access dropping whether just web surfing or using vpn..

    Help!!
