    Noobie poster alert.

Hi I have been reading in the forums and am still a bit confused.

    What I have.

Currently I have a linksys wrt54g v3 running tomato, and have a xbox and all that in my tv area which I wanted to connect to internet so I figured I could get another wrt54g and use wds and link them only problem is the new linksys is v8, I saw that I can manhandle dd-wrt onto the v8 but I don't really want to do that unless I absolutely need to ( so I can return it if need be).

    My problem

So what I was wondering if I could move the tomato router to the tv room and set that to run as a wireless client to provide internet to my pvr/xbox and use the v8 just as a regular wireless router or is there some reason that wont work. The distance is marginal so should be no problem with connectivity. Would this setup work? Or should I just go find another third party firmware safe router?

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't see wht you cannot put the v8 as the main gateway, but I f were you I would retyrn it and buy a wrt54gl, that way you can run 3rd party firmware on both. There are always a few 54g version 5 and below on ebay as well as the gl's.
