how simple is it to flash back to orignal linksys firmware if for whatever reason I want to switch back FROM tarifa? can I just flash it back via web interface?

what is the default Tx power for a WRT54G v.2.0? Is it safe to increase it to 251mW and run it 24x7 w/o a fan? What is a safe tx value to set my router at if I don't want to run a 80mm, for example, fan?

Yes, you can flash-back without any trouble. This can be done by use of the webinterface.

The default tx-power for your model is 28 mwatt. You can increase it to 250 mWatt, but I would advise a max of 100 mWatt. The reason is at speeds of 48Mbit and 54 Mbit the amplifier will give distortion and thus speed will go down.

The router works the best if the temp is below 25 degrees, increasing transmit power doesn't have a big contribution to the total heat-production.
