Maximum length for a standard ethernet cable is 100 meters = 328 feet. The longest you can go is with a RG58 coax cable and a 10 base 5 network (most people have only seen and heard of 10 base T). You could go up to 500 meters = 1,640 feet, but that would cost you in the neighborhood of $80 just for the cable.

Why do you want to do this? Do you just want to access your computer? If so, consider using some remote desktop software like that which comes with XP Professional. You can use it if both computers are connected to the internet with a sufficiently fast connection (provided there is not a firewall issue on either end).
