Access Point ONLY! WAP54G or WRT54G better for WLAN only?

(I will post this question twice (WAP54G/WRT54G Forums) because of not knowing where to post it better)

Because of using a LANCOM DSL/10 Firewall/Router, which is very good and secure I really only need an Access Point! I do not need any WAN ports!

But because of reading a little bit in this forum I thing about better buying a WRT54G Router than the WAP54G Access Point only.

I read about the better hardware of the WRT model! Is that right? Should i buy the router, even when I do not need it?

Amazon Germany sells the WRT54G for 64€ and the WAP54G for 55€, so the price istn't that important!

The only thing I want to know is, what the WRT54G is doing better on the WLAN site, because the WAN ports I will never use. Could I use the WRT54G only in Access Point mode?

Interesting also would be TX/RX monitoring and managing of the connected WLAN clients! Is that possible on one of the two machines with modified firmware?

    Thanks for answering!
