Accessing modem via router?

So, basically, I have a Linksys modem (default firmware) connected to the WAN port of a WRT54GL running Tomato.

I can't, of course, access the modem's config pages, unless I plug an ethernet cable into the modem itself, or connect via WiFi (which I've switched off anyway, as I have no use for it - I just use the WRT54GL's WiFi).

However, it seems that you can bridge the connections, according to this tutorial from my ISP: http://www.beusergroup.co.uk/technotes/index.php/Dd-wrt

At the moment, both the modem and Tomato currently have the IP 192.168.1.1.

What I want to know though, is, would this work if I change the modem's IP to 192.168.2.1? I don't want to change my network's IP as I'd have to change the settings on quite a few devices.

    So, possible?
