Administer One Router From Another

    Hi,

Here's something I thought would simple, but have been beating my head against the wall on. My networking skills are not great.

I have BEFSX41 and a WRT54G on my home network. All I want to be able to do is administer either from a machine plugged into either.

Right now, if I am on one and try to administer the other, it times out.

I tried messing around with advanced routes and just couldn't get it to work.

The BEFSX41 is currently connected to my cable modem and getting its IP from DHCP. It's configured on 192.168.1.1. The WRT54G is plugged into the BEFSX41. It's configured on 192.168.1.2 and currently has static IP assigned of 192.168.1.3.

At one time I tried putting the 54G on the 192.168.2.1 network thinking I could route traffic destined for 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 to the 192.168.1.1 interface and it would respond, but that didn't work.

Obviously I don't know what the heck I'm doing, so will someone help?

    Thansk,

first of all you need to make sure that one and only one router has DHCP running because it will jack up stuff kinda bad.
router a and router b ok...

plug the wan port of router a into a regular switch port on router b
and set that router a gets its ip from dhcp on router b. then just check on router b what ip's it has given out.
    .

the ip of router a should be listed Maybe by mac addr

for that setup you may have to enable the remote administration option for router a

    its usually on port8080

then you would type into the browser http://ipofroutera:8080
then log in and it should work

it may work by just plugging in one router to the other and shutting off dhcp but i am not sure so try it ( i am almost positive that my other setup will work)
