I flashed my WRT54G v5 router yesterday, the memory has only 5.6M available, and there is 0.3m free. Is it normal? How can I find the lost 2.4M memory? Thank you.

On the v5.x v6.x v7.2 v8.x this is normal. That's why they are not the best choice to use third party firmware on. (IMHO that is)

Thank you for your reply. I wonder whether there are any bad effects?

They do have a tendency to freeze up. My son's friend has a v5 and always needing to reboot to get back on the interweb. It's like it gets flooded and stops working.

Oh, it's bad. I will use this firmware from now on, if some bad things happened, I consider reverting linksys firmware. I hope my route wouldn't be bricked. This is my first time to flash a firmware, it's interesting. Thank you again.

I have a WRT54GS that runs with about 3300KB free and it's a version 5. It's been running without rebooting for months. At home I have a version 6 WRT54G that's not a GS and it has about 300KB free most of the time. It too seems to run just fine and even when I'm using it pretty heavily it never seems to change much and it's been stable.
