It seems, that Alchemy 1.0 final has been released publicly. At least there is now a firmware file called "" in the public -> Stable Firmware folder in the downloads section of the Sveasoft site. I think, that this section can also be accessed by non-subscribers.

At the moment there is no public announcement of the Alchemy release at the Sveasoft site yet. The text at the download page says:

    "Alchemy-V1.0 public release.

    This firmware is for WRT54G V1.0, V1.1, V2.0, V2.2 and WRT54GS V1.0, V1.1 routers only.

Alchemy-V1.0 is a unified firmware for both G and GS models. This firmware
can only be upgraded using the web interface. IF YOU HAVE A FIRMWARE UPGRADE
FAILURE WITH ALCHEMY - you must use an older firmware version whose size is
under 3,145,000 bytes and reflash using tftp. Reflashing with tftp will not
work with firmware versions larger than 3,145,000 bytes in size.

Always reset your router to defaults after upgrading."

The download section is only for subscribers.. please mirror it localy if you can, since it's a public release I guess this doesent violate any rules.

At the moment I can't mirror it, because it's only the binary of the firmware and the sourcecode is not yet available. With providing the binary without the sourcecode I would violate the GPL. But according to a post in the Sveasoft forum, at the moment James is preparing the sourcecode for public release.

So I think soon you'll be able to download binary + source here at Linksysinfo.

I don't have enough webspace to host binary + source. but as soon as source of Alchemy 1.0 has been publicly released, I can provide eDonky links to both, if you are interested.

I know people running pre7a on a v3 router so there is no reason why the final shouldn't work on a v3. Just remember that except for an extra hardware button on the front, the v3 is identical to a v2.2

Is this better/newer/more stable than AlchemyPre7? I've been running that with good results and don't know if I should mess around with this public release.

it is not that great. if you want this firmware then reconsider and download dd-wrt pre4.

most of the things in the firmware are all outdated like the firewall

    I have a problem with Alchemy v1.0 and WRT54GS v2.0.
Seens like isnt wireless connections. Clients dont see the router.

A used Alchemy Pre7a without error.

    Sorry my weak English.

Alchemy v1.0 final officially doesn't support WRT54GS v2.0, this maybe why compatability was changed to support lower versioned wrt's

I tried Alchemy pre7a and 1 final in the V 3 and the Client mode didn't work... Only OpenWrt works fine in the Client mode with V3 of WRT54G. :(

first Alchemy bug I've noticed - +0930 GMT time zone broken

Alchemy 1.0 flashed fine and so far no major issues I've found, except the router (WRT54GS v1.0) refuses to accept +0930 GMT as a valid time zone - it is happy with +1000 GMT so I am using that now...close enough :)

    Cheers Chris

    Problem flashing the Alchemy 1.0

I've tryed to update my WRT54G v2.2 to Alchemy 1.0, but it doesn't work with using the web interface. I've tryed flashing with TFTP, but it just says "wrong code pattern" !

can someone tell me how i can get this firmware into this damn router?

Re: Problem flashing the Alchemy 1.0

Alchemy is too big to be flashed with TFTP, so you'll have to use the web-interface.

Just be sure, that HTTPS is turned off before flashing, otherwise it won't work. And it's also highly recommended to do a long reset (>15s) before and after flashing a new firmware, to reset everything to the default settings.

are you sure you can load pre7a or 1.0 final into a G ver 3.0?

I have not done it cause it does not show on their web site.

you had no problems other than the client mode issues?

I'm using a WRT54GS v1.1 with the new sveasoft final, but my problem is that the "Max Idle Time" box only accepts numbers between 1-9999. I want my router to be connected everytime, so I have to put in a 0. But I just get a popup, telling this number is not allowed.

Is there anybody with the same problem and a solution?

If your router should be connected always to the internet, you should check the box "Keep Alive: Redial Period" and not "Connect on Demand: Max Idle Time".

I found this in the Setup Help. ;)

What should I put into the Redial Period box?
    The Help File says:
What does "ckeck" mean? Will the router now do a redial to my ISP every 30 seconds??
