Alternate WRT54G firmware that could make a VPN connection?

    Hi all,

I have a BEFSX41 at another Site, and a WRT54G V1.0 here. I noticed that many of the alternate firmwares add lots of new features, but I haven't yet found wone that looks like it might be able to addVPN endpoint functionality.

Is the VPN code from the SX41 in the firmware source from the linksys?

If it is is there a good reason it coudln't be added to WRT54G firmware?

What kind of processor is in a SX41?

I'm pretty sure I read that the VP41 has some piece of HW that helps with the VPN tunnels. I think the WRV4G does too? Am I wrong? Is there any thing in a SX41 that the WRT54G doesn't have?

I've been looking for something forever that has VPN, SPI firewall, and Wireless G (and a few other features mos alternate firmwares have.)

The closest I found originally was the SX41 coupled to the WRT54G. Later the WRV54G came out but it was pricier and it wasn't clear if it had the SPI firewall. Mow It's not clear if the WRV54G has any alternate firmwares available?

If I could easily add the VPN endpoint function to my WRT54G That would be the best of all worlds for me. So good I'd even buy a new WRT54G (or GS) if I needed more memory or CPU to get decent performance.

    Kyle,

you can purchase the wrv54g from www.pagecomputers.com for $145 including free shipping (that's where I got mine from). Other options are going over to the sveasoft forums of linksysinfo and check out alchemey 6.0 for the WRT54G. It has a builtin vpn server once you flash your old firmware to alchemey (6.0). Another option is hyperwrt for the WRT54G. The WRT54G was intended to be the "flagship" router for linksys, which is why there are so many firmware hacks for it.

    Does this help?
