Another remote admin issue

This one is not about port forwarding.

I have two routers in series both running Toastman successfully. The first (NetGear 3500L) gives normal access. The second (Asus RT-10U) is slaved off a LAN port and is used to provide a separate sub-net using a VPN connection. All works well from a networking view.

I use remote admin 8080 to get at the web admin on the second router from the primary network with no problem.

The issue comes when I make a change to the setup on the second router (e.g. change VPN destination). The save does a restart and the router is functioning OK but remote admin no longer works. If I then power cycle the router all is OK again with the new settings and remote admin working.

Is this likely to be a firmware issue or something specific to the ASUS? Is anybody using remote admin on any Tomato build and changing settings OK and retaining remote admin working?

Yes and yes...it's working as expected. However, in my setup, VPN is not a player. The routers I used for this test are one of the "production" WRT54GL slaves (acting as main), and my "test" RT-N16, which for the purposes of this exercise acts as the slave, since it's normally the "main" on a different subnet (192.168.5.x). Confused? Me too

Bottom line - VPN and router hardware seem to be the major differences.

See my sig for h/w & f/w info.

Thanks for confirming this works under some circumstances.

I'll need to do some more tests to see if I can isolate the cause further.
