    Greetings,

If all the local networks, not mine, use channel 6, does that automatically mean I should pick another channel?

    What does a channel mean?

    Isn't 802.11g spread spectrum?

What does the column titled rates mean?

How about good definitions for the other columns?

I can help with a few of the basics:

    1. If all the local networks, not mine, use channel 6, does that automatically mean I should pick another channel?

Yes. Channel 6 is the shipped default of just about every router on the planet. Move to a quieter channel.

    2. What does a channel mean?

A channel is a specific frequency. To see the exact frequencies for each channel, go to Basic Wireless Setup and the frequencies are listed right next to the channel number.

    3. Isn't 802.11g spread spectrum?

No. Some of the newer, faster protocols are. 802.11g is not.
