Hi just bought a Realtek RTL8185L off ebay. It works, but I'm geting low transmit signal from the card (this is a Mini-PCI card). I have two Dell D600 laptops. One has a Broadcom BCM4318 and the other the new RTL8185L. Both laptops *receive* from the router great (wireless signal strength show excellent signal, 4-5 bars on the display). But when I log onto Tomato and look at the RSSI in Device List, the RTL8185L is 15-20 dB lower than the Broadcom card. I adjusted all settings I could find in the Windows driver setup which did not change anything. I used the driver directly from the Realtek web site. To quantify the signal strength difference, I had both laptops side-by-side with direct line of sight to the router, about 10 feet away. RSSI reported from Broadcom -45 to -50 dbm RSSI reported from Realtek -60 to -70 dbm Is this a possibly a bad card? Is there some "transmit power" setting that I can't find? If anyone is using this card and has some insight, that would be most helpful. The card does seem to work fine, I just a little curious about the difference... Thanks
One guy here I remember had such a card some while back. I don't remember him having a weaker signal than anyone else, so perhaps your card is faulty.
