Any recommended settings to avoid N, or G+ interference?

I have learned that a neighbor running 'N' wireless will pretty much destroy the 'B/G' wireless on all the channels for you. Supposedly one of the Super-G implementations can do it too.

It's annoying.. I used to be on channel 1, but I had to move because one day I could no longer connect to my router 15 feet away. So I am on 8 now and I didn't have any more connection problems, but I notice my 'quality' is dropping today, and the neighborhood seems crowded.

Any advanced settings different from the defaults that might help?

Power ! What model of router do you have ?

Motorola WR850G.. but I am not fond of amping up power because when you do that, noise also increases.

The problem isn't really so much what my laptop 'receives' which is fine since the antenna is strong enough at 28 mW (except for that day on channel 1 when I thought the router had died).. but rather what the router receives from the laptop.. due to the interference it's harder for the laptop to punch through it, so that's why I am wondering if there are little settings in the G protocol that can be toggled that are non-default that help it ride the storm so to speak.. I guess not. :( Settings probably won't solve the problem of the laptop's inability to override interference.
