Any suggestions - WRT350N now a doorstop

Can anyone help? I have the "latest" firmware and spent 20 hours fiddling with this doorstop. I have had a few routers before this one so consider myself a "poweruser" and capable of setup. Any other router I have put in has taked 15 mins and I'm up and running. This WRT350N has been nothing but unstable and flaky.

This simply WILL NOT interoperate with 802.11g laptops. Drops and cut outs and the SSID disappearing are just some of the issues. It simply does not work. Doesn't connect to the net, doesn't allow any 802.11g laptops to connect and will not recognise any storage connected to it.

I bought this to boost my coverage, add speed, storage and performance and bring a new level to my network. The marketing spec's proved out to be a huge overstatement.

Instead I have a piece of **** that the retailer will not refund, Linksys refused to refund and only swap for another unit that others say will just cause the exact same problems.

$400 spent and a complete waste of my time and money.

DO NOT BUY THIS OR THE WUSB300N EITHER. Linksys promote this as a great bundle, but it is a horrible, unstable and pointless option.

Marketing should really wait for R&D to actually deliver a product and SHAME ON CISCO/LINKSYS for even releasing this piece of ***.

If anyone knows how I can get my money back please let me know.

Duh... $400? There are lots of wrt350n's working out there.I have wusb300N working with wrt350n. In basic wireless settings, what is set for network mode? mixed? N only?

I don't suppose you'd donate the WRT350N for OpenWRT porting? I've been wanting another project....

I believe DD-WRT will run on it also.

I will donate this doorstop to someone who will give me my $400 back. I know it will work with the WUSB300N adapter, but I have laptops on 802.11g which is 99% of what people have out there. This is a really APPALLING product - the more I read about this the more I realise I should have done that before buying it.

Tried it in mixed, wide, standard, fixed/auto channels - linksys support is terrible with representative with ABSOLUTELY NO EMPOWERMENT.

I am back to my DLINK 624+ with Turbo G. This is stable and works for now.

LINKSYS WILL NOT REFUND, THE RETAILER WILL NOT REFUND - this is NO WAY TO TREAT CUSTOMERS!

I AM SO OFFENDED BY THIS FRAUD OF A PRODUCT - THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO GET LINKSYS TO EITHER FIX THIS OR BE FORCED TO RECALL/REFUND - ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS??

I don't think that anything other than a class action lawsuit or posting about the problem to financial website forums will get their attention. If Cisco stock starts to fall, it'll get fixed.
Unfortunately Linksys is not alone in putting out buggy high priced new products only to basically orphan them. What is it, 8 months now without a firmware update? I'm guessing that they are probably holding off releasing anything until Wireless-N really gets finalized. That could take years and by then they'll probably have released a whole slew of newer higher priced router models that claim to do everything that the WRT350N is supposed to do and then some. And they'll probably be buggy as hell, too. The neverending cycle continues.

I do not understand why the retailer will not refund?

I had the same issues with my WRT350N and the 1.03.2 firmware, in the 1.05.8 firmware it works pretty well... but in dd-wrt it works a lot better (except there isn't any USB support yet, hang in there it's coming). I would advice you to try dd-wrt before you dispose of the router. Either that or 1.05.8, this one has some problems with the USB for me but it doesn't drop out.

i am running DD-WRT v24 beta.... i also searched their forum for the ways to do the USB support --- a few package installs, and a startup script later, and i now use my WRT350 as a printserver, just like the wrtsl54g that i had prior (used it with thibor 17rc3)

i never used the stock linksys firmware --- as soon as i got it home, DD-WRT went on it....

I've tried that myself, can't seem to get it to work though :(. I have the packages installed and so on. It's just not detecting a USB drive. It's starting to get on my nerves.

You think you could post your startup script here?

well... MY startup script is only for the USB Printer support, as i dont use it as a storage link quite yet...

but i HAVE seen a thread about it on the forums ---- let me see if i can find it.

USB Print support would be nice too. Please tell me how you did it :)
