i have my pc linked to the router by ethernet and 2 laptops on the wireless one of which hogs the speed because my gaming is very laggy.

    my router is:
    WRT54GS v5.1 from UK
    Firmware Version: v1.52.5

ive tried in QoS service but seems to have no effect, i read about some 3rd party firmware but cant find any firmware for v5.1 :(

if anyone can point one out or have any idea please reply

Possible solutions to your gaming woes

    tonylfc,
I think you are in a similar situation as what I am crawling out of, multiple items on a home network wired & wireless, one device needs to take priority but we can't make it happen. (to resolve my dilemma I bought a WRT54GL v1.1 & put tomato 1.25 on it).

Many posts I have read say that the stock QoS works little/not at all. Toastman has pulled a lot of useful QoS info together & put it here http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60304 (it has opened my eyes to the need for 3rd party firmware to make these little beauties perform as they should).

If you can pick up a diff WRT that accepts 3rd party firmware as listed in this thread http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/s...light=what+WRT54+will+take+3rd+party+firmware (add 1 to the recommended list WRT54G-TM) then do that & welcome to the world of 3rd party firmwares, where QoS is real & can be made to work well.

If you are not able to get your hands on one of the above replacements then I would suggest reading the QoS thread again, even more thoroughly & trying to apply what you can to the stock linksys QoS page. Remember to do the speed tests at your worst possible connection times and set your upload limits accordingly in the "applications & gaming > QoS > UpStreamBandwidth = MANUAL - xxx/bkps", it won't be perfect but may be enough to ease your gaming lag.

    happy networking,
