AP/Client vs. WDS?

Setup: I plan to connect my living room entertainment center (xbox, mythtv, etc.) to my lan/internet connection in the study over a wireless connection using a WRT54G and a WRT54Gs.

What I cannot seem to figure out is...should I use an AP/Client style connection, or should I go with WDS?

From what I can figure, the WDS has the advantage of extending the distance of the wireless network, however, that isn't something I need. Right now, I need two of the switch ports in the living room; however, I would like the option of adding addition devices. Otherwise, all I'm looking for is a solid connection that is stable.

Could somebody please list the pros/cons of each and give a recommendation? Also, what would the firmware of choice be for each?

    Thanks - Raccroc
