I don't have the solution, but a thing to check when you use wds, and especially with dd-wrt, you need to be on the channel 1,6 or 11, no others.
I had troubles with channel 14 and 2 dd-wrt wds, every evening, the connection broke down. When I changed to channel 11, nothing happened since a month now.

I would like to add one further comment... all three units need to be on the same channel. don't forget to make sure the wep/wpa key is the same on all three and if you do use mac filtering that you include your routers(wifi macs) in the list

One further note, when I set up my WDS, I configured the entire thing from the gui... (no startup scripts, or funky tweaks)

    Hi masterbeto,
Please advise how do you set up for AP+WDS working w. tomato. I use HyperWrt for months w. the setup, but when converting to Tomato my setup stops working.
    Main (M) WRT54G
    - WAN enabled
    - dhcp (internet access)
    - wireless (AP+WDS) same channel, same SSID, linked to Client (C) WRT54G
    - WPA2 key
    Client (C) WRT54G
    - WAN disabled
    - static IP (LAN, GW, Subnet from (M)
    - wireless (AP+WDS) same channel, same SSID, linked to (M)
    - WPA2 key
On (M) I can see under Device List that WDS is working, but (C) can't ping (M) and hereby not accessable

i've been using WDS on channel 3 for almost 8 months without issue. first on hyperwrt-thibor, now on tomato. why do channels 1, 6 and 11 matter?

    WDS... channels

2.4Ghz 802.11b/g wifi has alot of channel cross talk so the only clean channels not effected are 1,6,11... if there are no other aps using those channels you can use them. this is why we always say stick to those three and you will avoid problems.

wds... ping from M to C and C to M

I can ping any device or access point from any device or access point... I only have two units, but I first set up Tomato on one device and had Thibor on the other and WDS still worked with no problems. If you still can't get it to work, try reset nvram and restore defaults and try again.

if still doesn't work try re-flash the device; remember to clear nvram before a new flash.

Thanks for your reply. I know it based on playing around w. diff. firmwares (DDWRT,OpenWrt,HyperWrt)
I wonder if you guys can set ap+wds w. tomato so my setup must be wrong some way despite of w. hyperwrt my setup works flawlessly.
Tomato works w/o probl. on each of units, but trying ap+wds w. WPA2 none working for me ?

I have three wrt working in WDS with tomato 0.07 w/o problem but if I set WEP or WPA key it doesn't work (same key in all wrt verified).

My WDS setup only works with WEP (Although I haven't spent to much time with it as my MAC G4 is quite picky (TKIP only) but with WEP I found everything connected without any trouble. (In fact it was easier than with Thibor[although I did know what I was doing this time])

if you are using WPA, make sure all AP is set to the same SSID. WEP should be fine with different SSID. There is an explanation to this however i will save it for other time

i detect whats bug stop ap response near 30-50 min, ap+wds function no work "for me" in b mode, i need change it to mixed mode... now is working perfect

I already have ssid the same on both. I enabled WPA it didn't automatically connect, WEP worked so I left with WEP. I shold probably have another look at it.
