Are these known problems?

On my 2nd NSLU2 in a week; RMA'd the first once because it simply dropped off my network every few minutes, AND changed the Last Modified timestamp of all files backed up to it to the current date and time. Using a 400GB NTFS drive on port 1. Backup software is SyncBackSE. Both NSLU2 units had the latest firmware.

On the 2nd unit, still seeing it drop off the network and freeze up (power switch, which I know to be a soft switch, does nothing) every few minutes. From other posts, this seems to be a known problem with NTFS drives; correct?

Using Beyond Compare, I copied files over to the HD on the NSLU2, and got correct Last Modified dates. HOWEVER, I have several directories that begin with a $ symbol (e.g., "$MyDocs"). NONE of these directories can be copied, even with a file manager (Directory Opus). The $ symbol is a legitimate MS Windows XP character for file and directory names. Is this a known problem, that directories (I presume the problem also applies to files) with $ at least at the beginning can't be copied through an NSLU2 unit to an NTFS drive?
