Asking for help with DHCP

    Hello everyone,

Ive looked around and this seems to be the best place to ask for some help please.

I have a WRT54G router and i have had one for a little over a year now. Last week the wireless kind of stopped working, so i messed around a little and decided to update the firmware to 4.00.7, im not sure what it was before. When i did that the whole router seemed to stop working, my computer wouldent connect to it, i tried a couple more things and finally decided to just get a new one. I got a new one and it is version 4.00.7 as well. Then the fun starts :

With the new one, i cant get it to get an IP from my ISP through the DHCP server, the previous router could do it. I also cant get the router to assign IPS throught the DHCP, if i manually do it it will work. IT wouldent be such a big deal except that all the computers that connect to it wirelessly also connect to other places like work and school, so its kind of a pain to mess around with ips every time i want to connect. Because of this the network also works intermitently. I was wondering if anyone had any sort of suggestion that would help, im at my wits end. :)

Some things that might be helpful.
My ISP is adelphia and they do use a DHCP server
I took the first router i tried back and switched it with another one with the same exact results.
Wireless computers can connect to the router but it does not assign an IP (i.e the computer says its connected but ip is 0.0.0.0)
I have tried swithing the router between router and gateway to no effect.
I have tried swithing the gateway to 192.168.2.1 just to try it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
