Can someone please provide a link to download the ASUS Firmware Restoration Utility? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
It should be on the disk supplied with your router. There are reports that it is on the ASUS main site, but the one that is there doesn't work well. So the CD might be better if you have it.
As Toastman said, the CD version is recommended, but if you are like me and have not found the CD, you have to go to Asus Download site, choose your OS version(WinXP)/Utilities/ASUS RT-N16 utilities 4.1.3.5 (22,6 MBytes) - 2011.01.20 update. It worked for me, although I must admit that not without emotions. All the best!
I think I'll add it on 4shared download site, under the debrick / recovery tools... EDIT: Done. It's a standalone exe file for Windows, no need for installation, I don't think. Around 240K in size, no need for the whole diskfull of rubbish This is the version that was on an included CD from several months ago. I hope it works for you! I've used this probably a hundred + times. It has never failed yet, not even once. NB - I always set a fixed IP on the PC, otherwise the PC loses it's address and can't talk to the router. http://www.4shared.com/file/GL0aSSZ8/ASUS-RT-N16-RECOVERY.html?
Hmm. I had no luck with the version that came with an RT-N12 B1, copyright 2011. I just gave up and went back to the trusty tftp method.
