Indeed it does. Two cores shown in top output (although the cpuinfo content is odd).
No need to even goto the CLI, the web interface under General -> Network Map -> System Status also shows 2 cores.
Or look on the box, big badge on the front
I have 3 questions.
1. How do I enable NAS server? I notice a couple of other options.
2. There is Mesh networking available under this build?
3. On my ISP modern/router I get 500+ Mbps with Ethernet cable and 400+ WiFi. However with this firmware I only get 120+ Mbps with Ethernet and 60+ Mbps with WiFi.
Thanks in advance
We had a power outage in my building yesterday.
Since then my external hard drives have not been happy with life.
The HDD connected to the USB 3.0 port has been losing connection, sometimes.
Either that, or the drives have been switching places with one another: sda1 has become sdb1 and sdb1 has become sda1, sometimes.
I am on FW 378.55_2, which has been working splendidly for a couple of years, without any problems at all. Not so much now since yesterday's power outage.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to solve this?
I would very much prefer not changing FW since it has been working so well!
Thanks in advance!
Why can't find the fireware for ws880 now?
Check the drive on a PC, it's likely the source of your issue.
I doubt anything in the firmware of your router has changed, but hard drives can be very finicky

Some settings reverted back due to the power outage, so I don't know what I had them on.
Can that be a source of losing HDD connection? Due to having certain settings?
If I, e.g., Disable "Reducing USB 3.0 interference", the hard drives trade places.
I can buy that losing a HDD connection can be due to the drive, but does it really sound like them trading places with each other (sda1 becoming sdb1 and sdb1 becoming sda1) - without me doing anything - is down to a fault with just one of the drives?
Does "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" have any effect if "Enable Radio" on the 2.4GHz Band is set to "No"?
The reduce interference feature slows the USB 3.0 port down to USB 2.0 speeds.
Even when the 2.4GHz band is disabled?
The reduce interference feature slows the USB 3.0 port down to USB 2.0 speeds.
Couple questions since I start to dig into the firmware some more...
Does anyone else have issues with parental controls not working? I set up my kids devices under the Parental Controls but wanted to test they were working correctly. So, I added my cell phone, blocked everything. Clicked apply. Went to my phone, opened Chrome and was able to load an adult site immediately. No blocks, nothing. Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Finally, is it possible to set up Windscribe on the router as a VPN service so that all traffic routes through the VPN?
You should be able to setup any vpn service provider as far as I am aware.
You will also want to setup a PBR which is on the bottom of the vpn configuration page I think.
I cannot speak to the Perental Controls.
Thanks, I actually found a guide that works with Windscribe and ASUS routers. FYI they have a deal running currently through stack social $69 for lifetime pro access.
Now I am just trying to figure out which Location and TCP or UDP port I should use in the configuration. Not much documentation that I can find telling me which port I should use.
default port / protocol for vpn is 1194 udp but you can use whatever as long as the vpn server supports it.
Pretty sure I am up and running Now to figure out the parental controls.
One last note on the vpn configuration.
If anything your LAN devices are doing over the WAN is something you want only over the vpn tunnel then you will want to make sure to blackhole the LAN to WAN traffic if the VPN goes down. Again, that should be a option at the bottom of the vpn configuration page.
XWRT-Vortex has ceased for both the EA6900 and WS880 however it seems for the R7000 it still alive at least for the time being.
I received a reports that the latest several builds did not work on WS880 (wrong),
also @cybrnook stopped to support EA6900,
I did not have these devices, so I decided to stop their support too.
P.S. Latest old builds (legacy branch) are available on my site.
They will get updates if any security patches will be issued.
I've focused only on the R7000 and new generation branch now.
New firmware will be available for R7000 soon.
Is there any possibility of porting this to a R8000?
Or even translating the 5-10% of chinese on AsusWrt Merlin Koolshare
(cant post links)
Would be really cool!
Just figured that the latest ASUS App (126.96.36.199.22 - 188.8.131.52.25) stopped working for me on Android with 380.69. Block Internet Access (important to manage the Youngsters) does not work anymore. Tried to install previous APK's of the app but as my device is not rooted it is not working. Also downgrading the reouter to an 380.68 version did not help. So I am looking to the new gen branch as it'll hopefully fix the problem ...
Just updated the Asus android app to 184.108.40.206.25 and it still works on my router version 380.69_2
Nvm, i see what you mean, the block access still blocks the internet for the device you selected, but it doesnt update and you cant unblock it from the app, need to go into the router
So I tested it on my Asus Router with stock firmware and it is doing the same thing, so think there is definitely a problem with the Asus App and not the firmware for the router
Does "network map" work for an R7000 with 380.69_2? When I click on "Network Map", the browser flashes for a short moment then back to the main screen. Have tried it on Firefox, Chrome and Edge on Win 10.
Network map works fine in Firefox, Chrome and Edge on Windows 10 x64 Home edition with Fall Creators Update making it version 1709 (Build 16299.251) with the latest updates.
You might want to do a Shift key+F5 to force it to ignore the cache and refresh the page since I had a similar problem when trying Tomato, both Shibby and Advanced and the screen was not displaying some things.
cool! so 382 or 384 is coming?
I have an R7000 and EA6900.
A real shame the development has stopped for the EA6900 as the R7000 does not perform as well imho.
Slightly better WIFI and much faster interface than the laggy R7000 in comparison.
The EA6900 runs nice and cool clocked at 1.2Ghz also.
Someone wants to maintain the EA6900 section?
my two R7000 run nice @1.2GHz
@XVortex: can't wait...
Would love to but wouldnt have the skill set at best I can flash firmware and use my home network!
I just find it frustrating that the R7000 seems to live on(thats still fantastic btw!) but the reasons alluded for ending the EA6900 are due to possible legal conflicts with Asus.
All set. I'm waiting for Merlin's release then we go.
So, my Netgear R7000 is now set as an access point. Previously when set as router services-start script set a cron job pointing to wol.sh.
#crontab for sending WOL packet to COMPUTER everyday at 02:00pm
cru a ComputerOn "0 2 * * * /jffs/scripts/wol.sh"
logger COMPUTER is awake
/usr/sbin/ether-wake -b XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
Yesterday I set Netgear as AP. But tonight the wol.sh didnt execute.
Executing wol.sh in putty starts computer.
Rebooted Netgear just now and this can be seen in log. (Ntp hasnt run yet)
Aug 1 02:00:20 custom_script: Running /jffs/scripts/services-start
Aug 1 02:00:20 jffs2: valid logs(1)
So, wol.sh should run tonight?
Mind to share your bootloader 220.127.116.11?
Here we go: R7000 CFE v18.104.22.168
But it is not mandatory for ng.
Mine currently shows 22.214.171.124. What advantages would a newer Bootloader bring?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
looking forward for the 384.4 Beta 3.
Please refer to first post by XVortex
Posts about why and how to flash the custom CFE (bootloader)
Ok. If that is what the build is I will stick to stock so I can go back to base firmware if needed.

I had a similar problem with the 380.69_2, it wasnt adding the crontab after reboot, you can check with
"cru l" , i use this now
sleep 20 && /usr/sbin/cru a wake "30 7 * * * /jffs/scripts/wol.sh"
Yesterday I bought an extra R7000 and set it up with Asuswrt. It runs very smooth! The only problem is that the 2 routers (running both Asuswrt) have the same 5GHz BSSID. Is there any solution for this?
You can change the said name if you want.
Your router(s) will support aimesh with ng firmware.
He released 384.4 Beta3 yesterday: https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/
Or did you mean you wait for RMerlin to release 384.4 stable?
Did RMerlin change his mind? I thought he has not committed to include aimesh on his builds and said there are issues to include it.
I have big wifi issues currently with the r7000 and the newest firmware.
There is nothing in the logs however.
Tried to set it to factory defaults and upload my settings again, reflash the newest fw and flash an older fw.
Is there a difference between uploading the settings and setting up everything again?
How can I do a complete reflash? I read that you should not do a 30 30 30 reset on this device.
@DrSnuggles - what wifi issues are you facing? Checking as I posted similar issues a while ago based on 380.69_2 - went back to an earlier version. Due to other changes I upgraded to 69_2 last weekend but looks like I face poor Wifi performance again - considering another downgrade tonight.
@ollimö ping timeouts, ping on local network as high as 1000ms not far away from the router. What was the last working version for you?
I have EA6900 and 380.69_2 FV. all work (VPN. WIFI speed, LAN, stability etc.)
Why EA6900 don't have parental controls? Should I turn on it by special methods?
W/O parental controls I can't use XVortex firmware
how can I migrate to DDWRT? just flash thru regular GUI or recovery mode?
@DrSnuggles - I went back to 368_4 but I am not sure if 369_0 had similar problems. Anyway the 368_4 does the trick for me!
regardsing my previous post around the App problems -this has been fixed by ASUS with an update this morning.
Sorry for my Typo in my previous post - I certainly meant 380.68_4 and 380.69_0
hi at the device list i have many wrong names but why ?. as example my pc is name of: MyhomePc but there i see desctop-458h488d or my minipc is named minipctv and shows as silc Co gmbh
and all ather devices have the same problem, playstation 3 is named sony 38dh38s
Hi guys this may sound like a dumb question but I moved places and had to change my router setting to access point and now when i try to login to the asus settings page (192.168.1.1) it wont load ? I have firmware 380.66.
Any tips please would be appreciated
When you changed its mode, it probably reset to DHCP.
So you need to either scan your network or check your DHCP server assigned scope to see what IP the AP now has.
You can then access it with the normal user creds.
Awesome that worked and I learned something new, thanks so much!
@XVortex Yes! Cant wait for new firmware! Waiting eagerly like game update :X All hail XVortex!
hi guys, i need some help with printing . I am able to successfully print documents from PC ( wired & wireless), The printer is HP1020.
Now i am not able to find a way to print documents from my mobile phone. Any idea which app to use. Any help would be really helpful
This isn't really a cellphone printing thread.
Try google & good luck.
I came here after i could not find any help, and since i am using r7000 with 380.69, i thought let me ask here.
Sorry for bothering ya
Hmm shit today wifi was gone completely even after a reboot.
All right, back to the roots.
30 - 30 - 30 reset is nothing you should do on this thing, don't know why.
But there are a few emergency options:
1) reset nvram - press wps (right button) while powering up the router till power led start rapidly flashing.
2) push reset button while powering up till power led start slowly flashing to enter emergency web recovery mode.
Edit: Apparently I am to dumb to find the WPS button. But I did press reset for like 30 seconds when the router was booting. My ping times are relatively normal now:
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 12.762/45.283/139.725/43.008 ms
How do I reset the NVRAM on the R7000?
30-30-30 is for older cpu. ARM processors have to be reset differently.
Resetting the nvram is different depending where you are in the router.
If your back in the router gui, like the router booted up with some config then its (from a command line)
erase nvram && reboot
Or you can use the gui button.
If you are in the CFE (like emergency recovery) then from command line I think its
I am not 100% sure if these commands are exact in Merlin code but in DD-WRT these work.
It has been a while since I have had to get into the command line & mess around.
Google wps button
Thank you so much!
All you have to do is use a paperclip or any pointed tool of your choice on the reset button and hold it down for about 7-9 seconds and release when the power light starts to blink.
I've noticed that despite being disabled under tools>other settings, aicloud is up and running on my R7000.
I tried to enable and then disable it and reboot but it's still up.
I've searched the forum and found no solution but this thread
Asuswrt-Merlin on Netgear R7000
So I logged with SSH and tried to kill the /usr/sbin/lighttpd process, it worked, no aicloud anymore.
Unfortunately the process is spawned again in a couple of seconds, is there a way to disable it permanently?
I do only want to access my router only via VPN, I don't need such a dangerous thing
Thanks in advance!
XWRT-Vortex 384.4 is now available for Netgear R7000.
Downloads are here.
Changelog is here.
If you are migrating to a 384 firmware for the first time:
Backup the /jffs partition because the flashing will erase all the data;
When coming from 380 to 384/NG You MUST flash the 380.70 build first;
You MUST to do a factory default reset after flashing the 384/NG build;
Clear your browser cache after flashing the 384/NG.
A lot of work has been done to port this firmware.
So please consider and don't forget to
Your support is greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your work @XVortex! Sent a little something along your way.
One question: is AIMesh supported already?
As Merlin says:
I also decided not to enable this option yet to separate the bugs caused by AiMesh from the actual bugs of the NG port itself
Hmm, the speed on my repeater has halved using the new firmware. Is it possible to downgrade from 384.4 to 380.70?
Okay, I could downgrade to 380.70, and my speeds are back. So yeah, not sure what's up with the NG firmware, but it basically halves my speeds on repeater mode.
could be one possible bug, QOS Statistic not showing anything.
Very nice XVortex!
So for anyone wanting to downgrade back to the 380 train, you just do the firmware upgrade back to 380.70_0.trx, reboot, reset to factor & reboot again?
It also appears that 380.70_0 is the last update in the 380 train from the read me.
What happen to the "Traffic Analyzer" in the released version of 384.4?
Under Tools/Other Settings did you Enable BWDPI & reboot the router?
It might be one of the features like parental controls that is disabled until you do that.
I don't know, since I don't run it but sounds like it might be.
You might also have to ensure JIFFS is enabled because I seem to recall it uses that for the data storage. Not 100% sure though.
try reset or change to different folder location and reboot,
Works for a bit and then freezes again, probably a problem with the new firmware
Did someone already installed this? Do I need to redo my settings from scratch after flash?
read the directions for flashing the new code.
Its pretty straight forward and will answer your question.
@slindermike: I read that, I'd like to know if I can use nvram backup or so to restore my settings
Small incremental code updates are safe to load a backup of but large upgrades = not suggested.
Same for any firmware.
reset and reboot work for couple of hours, then it back to faulty again.
So I just uploaded/restored my saved settings and when I did that I am getting: "* Reminder: The System time zone is different from your locale setting.", which I did not get before.
The time zone was set to the time zone I am in, previously and it still is. Now I am getting this message, which I did not receive before I uploaded/restored my saved settings, with the cfg-file.
The System Time is now one hour ahead, even though I am in the same time zone as before. The System Time showed the correct time before I uploaded/restored my settings.
Does anyone know why this happened?
And, how do I change my locale to match my correct time zone?
Thanks in advance!
Do not restore saved settings from older code....
Reset the router to defaults, reboot and reconfigure manually.
Then you can create a new backup file.
If you still see the issue after those steps, which mode is the router in?
If in AP mode, you will want to set the AP to get it's IP via dhcp.
On the dhcp server, set a static Ip of your choice for the AP and reboot the AP for that to take effect.
That should work for the router If it is in AP mode.
What does "older code" mean? If by older code you mean the firmware version, it is the same FW version from which the settings were saved from, and then restored to.
I have not changed anything after I created the settings file and before I uploaded the same settings.
So, what is the point of being able to save your settings to a file if you have to configure them manually?
It is in "Wireless router mode (Default)".
When major releases occur, several settings in the NVRAM may have been introduced or modified. There is no way of telling if your current settings would be compatible or not. If you want to restore your settings, feel free, but if you start experiencing problems, everyone will tell you to factory reset.
I have saved and restored the same settings from the same FW version - that is what I am talking about. If the FW version is what was meant by "older code", then the answer is: no, it is not "older code" - it is the very same code.
I just upgraded to 384.4 and followed guidelines. I'm redoing my settings from scratch but I runned into a major issue for me. I've got two R7000, the first acts as the main router, the second one as media bridge connected with 5G wifi. Now as soon as I connect the media bridge I can't connect with any other device, like Android phone or Windows laptop, to 5G network.
If I turn off the media brige R7000 I can connect flawlessy.
Is it my fault?
It seems as if others have experienced the same "time" issue.
You could try the recommendation in that SNB thread.
"Do a complete power cycle instead of just a reboot."
"a complete power cycle = disconnect power for 10 sec. and reconnect ?"
"Yep, should be always done when upgrading firmware - as discussed here!"
Just tried but nothing. Did another reset also but as soon as I connect the second r7000 as media bridge all my devices disconnect.
Is it possible to revert back to 380.69_2?
I did some more log analisys and I found that I have lots of entries in both main router and media bridge log when this one is turned on:
br0: received packet on eth2 with own address as source address
Any comment on this?? Have upgraded to latest 384.4
You will probably want to revert back to the final 380.70_1 which is the jumping off point for the 384_NG code.
Then after that you can down rev to 380.69_2
Just re-read the steps for upgrading and reverse the order.
I'm not sure if this is correct or not but from the command line I would think you could set a custom DNS server.
nvram set dnsfilter_custom1=IP_of_Pi-hole
nvram set dnsfilter_mode=1
nvram commit && reboot
Of course you could manually set the DNS server in the gui to the Pi-hole ip.
The gui method obscures the option 6 as noted in the very directions you linked.
Another option would be to disable the DHCP server on the router and run it from the Pi-hole where it will automatically do both functions in one.
I think your design is more complicated than it needs to be.
Reading at snb seems like beta3 may have no issues with media bridge mode. @XVortex: did you build a version based on that one?
I'm facing issues with 384.4. My internet connection randomly drops, while the log shows "kernel: nvram: consolidating space!".
The time issue is far from new. Check out this thread from 2013.
Nor is the kernel: nvram: consolidating space!
Does anyone know how to change your locale in 378.55_2?
I don't want the DHCP to shift from router as have many static IP defined.. also I can shutdown pi-hole and other stuff works instead of moving DHCP to it..
So you are suggesting on the DNS server 1 I set the Pi-Hole IP and leave server 2 blanks? (or say point it to Google DNS for redundancy or will that not work?)
Trying to basically keep everything on router and just DNS redirect (mode 6) to Pi-Hole.. I am not sure how it is quite complicated? I am sure there must be others with similar setup or using pi-hole??
Hi,XVortex,thanks for your work,But I have a problem,in 384.4 HW acceleration is CTF only now,not CTF+FA，Is this normal?
Yes, set the dns server #1 to Pi-hole.
Leave the others blank.
Reboot a lan device or otherwise force it to require it's dhcp up from the router.
This updates the settings.
Dnsservers don't hit in sequence it's more of a mass blast and whomever responds first the clients goes with.
Unless you force strict order which is beyond this discussion.
Complicated by not shifting the two related functions to one box (pi-hole or router).
Either can do both and splitting it up just adds another box the clients are dependant upon.
