Bad Flash on WRT54G - can't seem to get it to recover

I accidentally flashed a firmware for a v2+ WRT54G onto my v1.1. I've read through several guides, and I'm getting the 3-5 pings as my router powers on. However, I can't seem to get it to take a new firmware. I'm on Mac, but I found a TFTP client that seems to work. It shows the firmware as transferring, then the LEDs on the front light up in a different configuration for awhile. I let them jump around until they settle back down to the normal pattern (usually 2-3 minutes, but I've given 10, just to be sure), but I'm still getting nothing. IE The router will power on, give me 3-5 pings, then go silent. I've tried the official linksys firmware about 5 times, and just tried the openwrt firmware. Am I missing anything here?
