bandwidth monitor stats saved to USB drive--frequency question

So, I got tomato (teddy bear mod) to save bandwidth monitoring stats to a USB flash drive attached to my ASUS RT-N16.

So my total noob question is that if I set the save frequency to every 4 hours, will the stats be saved to my USB flash drive every 4 hours even if I have no computers on/connected to the network? The reason why I'm asking is as follows:

Yesterday, I was looking at the monitor and it said I had used 0.5GB (streaming movies seen over 4 hours previously), then I rebooted my router via the tomato interface, and all my stats for the day were gone. Then I reloaded the backup stats file, but it only showed I had used 17 MB, and it didn't seem to have saved the 0.5GB I had used even though the use was > 4 hours previously.

Yes, it should save no matter what. Do you also save your syslog to USB?
