I have seen a lot of documentation on the WRT54G, but it turns out mine is a version 5. So, I do have a BEFSR41 - can I use this as a linux setup - I really only want to use it as a proxy server so I can access content that would otherwise be blocked... Anyone ever tried to linux firmware this box?

Any other thoughts as to how to get either the v5 WRT or this BEFSR to be able to give me an IP Address field when accessed via the net?

    Thanks,

    Victor

    DD-WRT makes a micro version that i believe works on V5 Wrt's.

I have seen that too. You ever seen anything about using a non wireless router in this way?

No because all of the linux code has been rewritten for most of the WRT which are natively linux based anyway. I dont know what the OS is for the BEF is something in the back of my mind says VXWorks but i dont recall for sure. Though i am still trying to grasp what it is you are after. There plenty of proxy servers out on the net that are open to use. What do you mean give you an IP address field when accessed via the net?
