befsr41 v2 occasionally hangs. why?

I upgraded the befsr41 v2 firmware to 1.46.2 and my home network has been much more reliable. However, connectivity to the Internet still goes away from time to time. So far, I have been able to identify only one symptom. When connectivity dies the router will not respond to a request for login, ie, request for with Internet Explorer produces no response.

My router is connected to a comcast cable modem.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I had one of those new for about four years - and sold it on a couple of years ago... isn't it surprising it is still going without a firmware update for 3 years?

    The short-lived V3 was released in 2003!

This model only has a 10Mbps half duplex WAN port which was fine for the internet at the time!

Unfortunately I experience the same behaviour. My home network is used for casual home work and some heavy duty net games from time to time. I coupled a WAP54G for wi-fi and all seems well on that side.

    I run FW 1.46.02, Aug 2004 - haven't seen any other upgrade for the BEFSR41 v2.

I am now looking to alternative FW, but haven't yet commited to one...

    Hi all,

Sorry for butting in :) but do any of you have a link to the 1.46.02 fw for the BEFSR41 v.2 ? I can't seem to find it in the downloads section here or at linksys.com.

1.46.02 was an official release via their website, looks like it is still on their ftp site

    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/befsr-v1.46.02_code.bin 362KB 16/08/2004

but I can't see the release notes there (http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31679), and it not zipped with checksum etc so take care!

There's another copy of this version and many others in

I recall folk claimed that the best version was 1.44.2, maybe patching bugs slowed the router down?

Linksys did keep supporting the V2 for 3 years after releasing it!

Indeed the best thing I could have ever done was downgrade to a more stable version and I am so happy I did. This is the version an official Linksys tech support representative emailed me...
    Firmware Version: 1.44.2, Dec 13 2002
