Any body have an idea why I can't open the updated driver for the above router? I get the error message " you are attempting to open a bin type file. These files are used by the operating system............blah blah. If you still wnat to open this file press "open with". When I do this it gives me the list to choose from. I have tried IE & notepad neither of which works.

    Any Ideas??

Its a binary file, full of bits and bytes. If you open it with Notepad or wordpad you will make out the odd word - but why do you want to?

You have to use Tftp.exe to install a new driver. If you got that bin file from the linksys site under BEFSR41 v3 for some reason they don't give you the Tftp.exe, so go under BEFSR41 v4 and get the exe by downloading "Release Version: Upgrade Utility" and then get the instructions on how to Tftp.exe with the bin file you got by downloading "Release Version: Upgrade Instructions". That should take care of things.

Or simply log into the web interface of the router (usually located at and upload the firmware from there. If you have a v1/v2 edition of the BEFSR41 the you'll want to click on the "Upgrade Firmware" link on the Help tab (as shown here) or if you have a v3/v4 verion look for the "Upgrade Firmware" page under the Administration tab. (As show here)
