I was looking for a solution that might allow me to create a hardware based tunnel to an ASA5505 router. After some research I found that the Linksys BEFSX41 has Cisco IPSec code in firmware for creating such a VPN. I decided to purchase a BEFSX41 off of ebay for $11.

After some guidance and trial and error, I have successfully created an auto connect hardware based Site to Site VPN between the 2 mentioned devices. There are still some tweaks that need to be made on the ASA side to make it complete but it does work. As of right now I can see only one of any subnets on the ASA. Data and Voice networks are on separate subnets. The final piece is to configure the ASA to allow multiple subnets to its remote network. I do not know if the BEFSX41 will support multiple subnets from the other end but that is my quest to answer. Any suggestions from the ASA side would be greatly appreciated.

I am not a command line guru but can do some things with repetition. I am hoping to create a guide using mostly GUI and minimal command lines to make it easier for the less confident.

Is there any interest in seeing such a guide created?
