    Hi,

I just bought a used BEFW11S4 router off of Ebay. It came with everything but the installation cd was damaged. Is there a way to use the router without it or can I download the software off the internet?

    Thanks

The BEFW11S4 is an odd one. I have never been able to hard reset the router using the reset button. The only way to "start fresh" was to connect to it and run the "Restore Default" option within the unit itself. Supposedly, this unit is supposed to hard reset if you:

    1. Hold Reset button for 30 secs
    2. Unplug power (while holding down reset button)
    3. Plug in power (while holding down reset button)
    4. Release reset button

    Never worked for me though.

If anyone knows how to hard reset this puppy using the reset button, please chime in.

holding it down for 30 seconds while its plugged in should work

Yes it should But for some reason, it does not. Even tried doing it for longer + using the power on / off method. The only way to get it back to default mode is to choose the Default Factory option while logged in. Not sure if this is a glitch in this unit or what.

    Anyone else has any ideas?

I too have a BEFW11S4 and found I had to restore defaults from the browser. But I have been having to do this because ANYTHING I do by way of passwording or encryption renders it no communication with any other computer even though they "see" the device.
I am very new to wireless anything as well as networking. I have recently set up a Buffalo Air station with no problems but like the other poster here there is no installation CD to work from. I am using WinXP on a two year old Dell Laptop and would like to simply be able to set the connection so other users have to enter a pass word to connect. Tight encryption is not really needed.
Any help at all would be just great.
