BEFW11S4 to WRT54G

I have several programs that upload weather products to my website via FTP (watch/warning maps, radar images, emwin stuff, etc.) I'm currently using a lovely Linksys BEFW11S4 802.11b wireless router which had been pretty decent when I first got it. Unfortunately it's suffering from constant lockups that can only be solved by power cycling the unit. I've checked with other users of this model and the majority seem to suffer from the same thing. Resetting the unit, downgrading firmware, disabling certain features, none of it solves the problem. So I'm fed up, done, ready to throw this out the door. That leads me to my next question, what is everyone else out there using for their wireless router? I don't hate Linksys as they usually produce pretty good products, I've just had a bad experience with one of their models. How is the WRT54G, anyone using that? It seems to be popular as you can use a multitude of firmwares out there as well as using linux on some of the older models. Does it lock up and require power cycling? What version should I get? I see Circuit City has v2.1, which doesn't seem to be listed on the linksys site.

    Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I have a BEFW11S4 and if you really want to know all about it put it into google along with the word problems. You will see more than you ever wanted to.

I found a new problem last night. If you run Windows Media player and listen to internet radio, it locks up when you switch stations. I have to do a hard reset.

The WRT54G is a good box. You do not really need new firmware for your application. The WRT54G was designed for that directly. I have 2 Version 3 boxes and they seem to run very well.

Yeah, I've found several sites with hundreds of posts regarding problems for my BEFW11S4 boxes. Sounds like the WRT54G is much more reliable than the BEFW11S4. Thanks for the info!
