beginner's BEFSR41 question (v1 vs. v2 vs. v3)

This is my first posting here, so I ask for tolerance. I haven't seen
an answer but maybe I haven't looked hard enough (or in the right place). I have what I believe is a "v1" BEFSR41. I have been told
that if I had a "v2" or a "v3" BEFSR41 it would say so on its label,
on the bottom, and it doesn't. Would somebody please confirm?

It came (used, cheap (I'm sorry, please don't suggest I get a newer
or better one)) with "1.15" firmware, and in the last day or two I
have (I believe) upgraded it to "1.46.02" which is the newest that
the Linksys web site had (but this gets to my question).

Is the "v1" vs. "v2" vs "v3" difference a "hardware" difference or a
"firmware" difference? Or both? Specifically, assuming I do have a
"v1" BEFSR41, can I download the latest "v3" firmware and install
it? Would I then have a "v3" BEFSR41? Etc. Thanks in advance.

V1 and V2 have the same firmware, I think a difference is in the Power supply voltage.

V3 is very different and has different firmware. One significant difference between V1/2 and V3 is that the Internet WAN connection on V1/2 is only 10Mbps half-duplex. The later ones have 100Mbps WAN ports and can support higher internet speeds greater than about 6Mbps.

I hope it was cheap I guess the V1 must be over 5 years old now, that it had new firmware only a couple of years ago has kept it going I hope?

Thank you, mstombs. I especially appreciate learning that
the "v3" is a 100BaseT; I had wondered about that (whether
they all were 10BaseT, on the WAN side).

I suppose "cheap" is relative, not absolute. I call $7.50,
which it what it cost me, cheap.

I had guessed (or read) the "v1" and "v2" differences were
minimal (read, not visible to the user, except for the power
supply I guess), but don't really know about the "v3" (and
have never even heard of this "v4" I see mentioned here).

I am reading between the lines of your reply and guessing
that I cannot install "v3" firmware on my "v1" BEFSR41.
