belkin.jpg I would just like everyone who is interested to know, that a Tomato USB Shibby mod from William (bwq518) is working fine on a Belkin F7D4301 F7D8301 routers.

Used his latest version (117) version:
    Tomato Firmware 1.28.0117 MIPSR2-20140420.Hyzoom.RT_N5x K26 USB 8M-VPN-TR

    Available for download at:

    http://pan.baidu.com/s/1cMsgd#dir/path=%2Fapps%2FTomato_bwq518%2FTomato_Shibby_Mod_by_bwq518%2F115_1210%2FEN

I specially like the CPU load/occupancy , wireless power and temperature related info!

Thanks William (bwq518), I appreciate your great work !

I did a search for "bwq518 and source", and find this:

    bwq518 said:

I already uploaded all of source code to repo.or.cz/w/tomato.git. Since this is my first time to use GIT and there are many many patches to ba applied, I only commit all of them as one time push.

    My branches,
tomato-hyzoom for K26 RT and K24 ND models
    tomato-hyzoom-RT-AC for K26 RT-N and K26 RT-AC

    Thanks,
    William (bwq518)

Ahh. Apologies. Didn't realize you had sent the full source. Tons of thanks from my direction

I personally do not know enough about Linux, to compile anything from source...whether it is available or not.
Just happy to see my cheapo $25, 2 usb port router running entware, downloading (wget),recording (streamripper) and playing (madplay) shoutcast and icecast streaming media stations....and handles also 2 tablets, 2 mobiles, 2 laptops and 2 voip adapters.

Jenom, I watched with interest BWQ's build, but I've hit a brick wall when it came to downloading a specific build because of the language barrier.
I don't really get the firmware naming either. gae ar etc... it includes Transmission gui?

I personally find bwq518 download webpages very well organized, perhaps this link would be a better starting page:

    http://pan.baidu.com/s/1cMsgd#dir/path=/apps/Tomato_bwq518/Tomato_Shibby_Mod_by_bwq518

then select version number and release date, next choose language of EN (English) or CH (Chineese)
    followed by different builds (K26RT-N, K26RT-AC, K26, K24)

Than it took me about 30 seconds to find my file, since my router has only 8 MB flash , so I only looked at files sized below 8 Mb and found : Tomato Firmware 1.28.0117 MIPSR2-20140420.Hyzoom.RT_N5x K26 USB 8M-VPN-TR

As the name shows , it is made for routers with 8MB flash, with USB support, VPN and TR (Transmission)
Also it has VLAN, IPV6, Captive Portal, CIFS, JFFS, QOs,FTP, Samba

I have no idea what GAE means, AIO is very likely "All-in-One" and PY means Python.
I know that AR stands for ARIA , another bit torrent client.

BWQ518 file naming is still more clear, than the names used by some others, like "tiny", "mini", "standard", "big", "max", "ext".....totally useless, since it does not describe anything !

bwg518 must be a very busy guy, since after Shibby's 117 came out, he released on 2014-04-20 at least 2 dozen English and 2 dozen Chineese versions.

Thank you, I've seen a lot of routers supported only in BWQ builds, and it sure seems like a great firmware. I'll test it out for sure! Based on Shibby, can't go wrong with that!

the interesting thing, that first I had one of Shibbys version installed
got curious about his Anon project, so I just followed the link provided on the router's ANON webpage
so I went to Shibbys Anon database page (http://tomato.groov.pl/tomatoanon.php) and looked around what versions are the others using for my Belkin F7D4301/8301......was not sure to go with K26 or K26RT-N
well, this is how I discovered the existence of BWQ518 Hyzoom and after some searching, managed to locate his download page
I agree, that he should share his codes with a community, since this is an open source development project.

I'm flashing it right now on a Belkin F7D4302, hopefully it will work (Shibby doesn't)

And it WOOOORKS!!!! Yes, Yes, YES! I was stuck on 112 for some time!
Also it's very small... by more than 1 .2 MB than shibby's VPN build, I'm totally happy, I think I'll do my home router also...
Later edit: Everything works, I have JFFS now with 850k+, but media server is not there :) so be ware!
I installed VPN-TR, what is the name of the one that includes also Media Server?

P.S. 2: he included my tux.gif (slightly modified), I would like to say to him that he is free to use the one in evolved_grey skin, it's also transparent, looks better and spelled properly ;)!

P.S. 3: Also tried: RT_N5x-8M-VPN-IPv6-Max-5G I don't know what the F is that, I don't even see the USB menu... so no media server here neither...

I am using an USB stick with entware on it, and have all kinds of media related stuff running from there:
    --mpd, --mpc, --madplay, --icecast, --streamripper

My USB stick is an 8 GB, gave entware 128 MB, swap 128 MB, and the rest is filled with recorded mp3-s.

On the second USB port have an USB sound card plugged in ($2 from Ebay) , playing on my home theater stereo live radio streams form Shoutcast and Icecast servers.

Through Wifi , I am using a BB Playbook as a remote control (ConnectBot apps--telnet/ssh) to select/start/stop media play/record .

I was looking for minidlna server for my main router F7D4301, I also use entware here but it already works as a charm with shibby.
I was looking just for the minidlna server option, but I couldn't find it, just VPN+TR+minidlna. I like that I have now JFFS there it's a great plus!

I'm happy that I finally managed to get the F7d4302 out of the dark ages (Removed info by user).

For what it's worth I really like the feel of BWQ... Those temp reading are great as mine is overclocked to the max (still stable, currently 10 days with adequate passive cooling).

Yes, these cheap Belkin routers with a good firmware do amazing things
I keep my at 453 mhz, so it stays at 46 degrees....has heatsink glued on chips
Tried to go to 500 mhz, but temperature went up to 52...so went back to a lower setting
Added also 2 external antenna for 2.4 ghz.. It made little difference......still poor range

One thing i want ask you guys: If put the source to git will let China GOV block(maybe attack) the tomato git domain/source even this forums, you will or will not do it?

Bwq518's firmware (newer than 114) include a module call "TOW", it let chinese people can easy break the famous 'GFW' in china.

So do not say someone is evil if you do not understand the whole story.

I didn't meant it like that, I was really happy that I've found an up to date firmware, I thought it's better to mention it because other users like myself could see the info (I mentioned the model and the problem version) especially because it's based on YOUR code.
I actually use your firmware and like it, as I've said in the post before yours... and the thread is actually about another router model that DOESN'T exhibit the same behavior.

one need to be in the exact circumstances, to understand the other person's actions
china is far from an open & free society, full with restrictions and govt control
as long as bwq518 does not use an open source software to make profit

    From the GNU website.
He is not helping the community by releasing only binaries. Personally I would stay away from it until he does. It would seem too suspect to me, and I don't feel I could trust it. What has he got to hide?

  24. jenom

ir depends which community you are talking about
there are TWO community: --developers --end users

---the "developers" of course not happy, because he is not releasing his source codes and making better versions of Shibby's (more features, more router model supported, chineese language,etc...)
however, bwq left ALL Shibby's features untouched, just added new stuff to it, showing an example what else could be done

---the " end user" , like myself who are testing (risking their routers) new releases and reporting back their results to the community.....I am happy to have another option to replace the poor Belkin firmware with something nicer and better......the K26RT-N releases ( below 8 MB file sizes !!) are working fine on an inexpensive Belkin F7D4301/8301 routers !

He can easily leave that module out and just publish the rest of the sources.

As for easily breaking a government firewall run by the providers: Don't be stupid. The chinese government isn't stupid. There is a good chance they are monitoring the use of such attempts, with the source available or not, and have a special "list" for the people using it.

    Edit: @jenom
There is only one community. Without keeping the GPL intact most projects would stagnate. Neither toastman, victek or shibby would be able to provide the extensive amount of builds they have if everyone keep to themselves. So the GPL is as important to the end users as it is to the developers.

Keep calm ... all of you have the option to switch to another firmware mod and when Bao William like to share what he did then we'll thanks, no problem. Unfortunately Chinese culture don't understand the global knowledge as we saw also from other cultures, it's a long way to learn. No worries, it's a hobby and we can't stop Tomato visibility for these subjects ;)

Shibby and those concerned about my mod tomato, here I will clarify following issues.

First, I have worked at one of the biggest IT companies worldwide for 15 years. Tomato is only personal interest due to nostalgia that I was a software engineer about 15 years ago. Using this small tomato software to make profit is not my purpose and aspiration. I believe my present annual incoming maybe exceed many of your guys'. I already did tomato mod from the first version 1.23 by PolarCloud. I like that feeling to share my contribution to others, especially for Chinese who have no free and stable firmwares for many low-end routers.

Second, I decide not to update ToW source code to repocz in case that ToW is greatly useful for throwing over GFW. This will impact greatly to GFW. ToW uses hybrid-ssh, shadowsocks, GAE or WebVPN and it is a bit complicated source. I think ToW is only useful in China. If there is a git store that has password authorization, I will push all of mod source right now.
BTW, just several days ago, the shared link of BaiDu internet disk, which store all of mod firmwares, was blocked due to unknown reason. This is fact in China. Hope you guys can understand.

Perhaps I can do more contribution to tomato community after I lived in Canada next year. Maybe I will meet you someone in USA or Canada at that time.

I am sure you will enjoy to be in Canada.....hopefully come to British Columbia, where the winter is not that brutal.
In my opinion, the economy in China is a run-away train....unstoppable !
Any economic slow down would create lots of unemployed people......create public unrest......political instability.
I do not see situation getting better, very likely, will stay the same or even it will get worse.

but this one commit of bugfix Belkin F7D4301 F7D8301 support you could push to git.

you can create new private repository (bitbucket.org for example). For 5 users private repository is for free. You can give an access for me and other devs. It`s not a perfect solution but it is better than not public sources.

    Hello guys,
I am new and would appreciate some advice/help.
I have Belkin router F7D4301 and 160Mbps broadband, When my PC is connected directly to my modem with Ethernet cable I get 160Mbps, but when its is connected through my F7D4301 (again via Ethernet cable) I only get ~ 114Mbps.
Am I right in thinking the F7D4301 supports gigabit and so should allow my full broadband speed?
Can some one recommend a firmware build that would allow this please, there is so many different builds I am very confused! :s

Please forgive my ignorance/stupidity, any advice offered will be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

To update from my post above, I flashed my F7D4301 with tomato-K26USB-1.28.117-MIPSR2-20140420.Hyzoom.RT_N5x-8M-VPN-AR successfully and the WAN port and LAN1 port both report 1000M which looked promising, but upon running a speed test the speed had decreased to around 90Mbps ie. lower than before?
I am clearly doing something wrong or trying to achieve something that is not possible but I don't know :(

Can anybody advise please as I am at a loss? I really appreciate it.

    Thank you.

A connect speed is just a connect speed, anything greater than 100Mbps must be gigabit.

Throughput is a function of router CPU resources, the old WRT54GL series used to top-out at ~35Mbps. When CPU limited every iptables rule, bandwidth monitoring, access restriction, QOS setting can limit throughput. Highest CPU load probably doing PPPoE on WAN-PORT and wireless encryption

it depends how old are your children:
-free public elementary and high school education here has very low standards to make sure everybody passes
-paid college and university education is better, however, there are big differences between schools, more you pay, better it gets

I have flashed my router with :

    Tomato Firmware 1.28.0117 MIPSR2-20140420.Hyzoom.RT_N5x K26 USB 8M-VPN-TR

yes, it has 5 Ghz, but I have turned it off in webgui because 5 ghz range is very poor and no need to add more power consumption to generate more heat.
with 2 usb connected it stays around 46-47 Celsius (see picture in first post)

If you are "confused & I do not know what to load" , I recommend to go Shibby's Anon webpage
and select your router in "search by model number", and you will see what others are using !--here is a link for Belkin F7D4301/F7D8301

    http://tomato.groov.pl/tomatoanon.php?model=Belkin Play Max / N600 HD (F7D4301/F7D8301) v1

This link suggests that dropbox is a good solution for a private git repository: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2378120/is-there-a-free-private-git-repository
There is also this dropbox forum thread that which suggest to do that in a disk image and includes a few warnings about possible complications that might occur when using dropbox with git: https://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=12021
As long as there aren't too many users that have access to the share, I doubt that it would cause any real problems.

I would hazard a guess at Ubuntu or Linux Mint especially the LTS editions to compile from. But it boils down to each persons preferred preference of OS. As long as you have the necessary libraries, tool sets and Tomato source code to mimic the developers way of compiling a firmware.

bwq518 could tell you the exact OS, libraries, etc he uses when next passing through this forum. :)

Do you use new version of aria2 ?

New version needs C++11 toolchain. You can use a static bits 1.18.5 to bundle into fw.

I will release a new version to integrated this static aria2c 1.18.5. You can download from my Baidu internet disk.

Haha, I was just on leave about two weeks and back to China now. I will upgrade the FW including CN and EN to v120.

The new version will be built with aria2 1.18.5, ngixn, php and mysql 5.1. Feel free to try them.

    thanks for the update
looking forward to try out the smallest versions of RT_N5x USB on my Belkin F7D8301 (only 8 MB flash)
would be nice to have a "mini" RT_N5x USB version: no VPN, no TR, no AR and make those available as optional downloadable packages.

there are two new bwq518 versions are available to download
however, both are only in CN :-(
does it mean there will not be any more EN release ?

    Hi all,

I have a Netgear WNDR3700v3. Especially for this router, the Hyzoom firmware seems the best choice except that the sources of the latest versions are not generally available. I note that according to this website (tt.onv.cc/?page_id=82), legitimate developers were/are permitted to access the source code. (As I understand it, the reason that the source code was not made available more generally was an attempt to preserve successful techniques for surmounting the GFW of China.)

Bwq seems like a virtuous guy who has performed a great service to the Tomato community. However, I'd rather not use FW that has not been "vetted" by at least one developer.

So, my question is has anyone other than Bwq looked at the August 2014 version of the source code?

    Thank you.
