Benchmark CPU usage?

I installed an RT-N16 at a client running a recent Toastman version (from 1-2 months ago), to act as a pure QoS device. They have dual WANs (FIOS and a T1), so I left their SonicWall in place and just connected Tomato between the SonicWall and FIOS modem. The T1 only is used for video conferencing and the IP phone system; FIOS handles all other data.

With about 30 users and a 30/30 FIOS connection, the router seems to always have about 60-70% CPU utilization. I left in place just about all of Toastman's default QoS classes. Recently, the client upgraded to an 80/30 FIOS connection. I updated the QoS cap accordingly. CPU utilization stayed around 70%, but the max bandwidth I was able to get was about 60 Mbps. Turning off QoS gave the full 80 Mbps down.

    1. Does this CPU utilization seem normal?
    2. Why can't I get the full bandwidth with QoS on?

    Thanks

i think CPU util is ok. but the QOS is another issue. sometimes there's a drop in speed when QOS is enabled but it should not be 20M loss. you need to review the QOS settings on the router.
