    Hi,

    I own a WRT54GS flashed with dd-wrt v23sp1.

I've seen many posts of users overclocking their router and I have several questions :

    1) What are the benefits of overclocking ?

    2) What is a safe overclock (i have no heatsink on the router)

    3) same question with xmit power raised to 70mw

    Thanks in advance !

The xmit power is for the radio chip to increase wireless signal, strength, and range.

The overclocking is to increase the cpu speed (how fast data is processed), which increases the performance of your router.

But both of these things can damage your router because of excess heat being generated.

Before when my router had no heat sinks the xmit power would be from 56-84 and the cpu would be overclocked at 216 MHz only.
