Best alternative firmware for ADSL modems?

Can anyone recommend alternative firmware(s) for ADSL modems, and their associated popular modem(s).

I've got two ADSL modems... Don't think they'll have better firmware replacements though. I end up rebooting them once a day, week or month depending on their moods.

    1. USRobotics USR9112 - ADSL modem, 1 port Ethernet, 1 USB.
    2. D-Link DSL-2540U - ADSL modem, 4 port Ethernet.

Looking for reliable ADSL modem firmware, like Tomato and DD-WRT have become trusted names for Broadcom based chipset routers. All this good talk of routers here, but you must connect them to some telco termination gear?

Clarification: I only use one modem (USR9112 these days) at a time, connected to a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54-5-EU router running Tomato (SgtPepperKSU Mod).

You have them both in bridge mode? Why do you end up rebooting them?

Couldn't find a bridge mode on these modems, unless its under some other name?

I have to re-boot the modem because the net dies out, heavy torrenting on two computers and heavy Skyping on the third computer, in my home network.

dunno if the dlink will let u do it or not, as it is a router also... but the usrobotics should be able to... when setting up the way you want it to connect (vpi/vci) there may have been an option to put it in bridge mode... Then you configure the router to do the pppoe... Why are you needing to reset it, and what router are you using?
