Hi was just wondering what the best option for my friend who needs me to help him hook up wifi at his hotel. He has 3 floors and was wondering what do you think is the best option?

Basically he said he would like a splash page so we can put a disclaimer, there is no max users that he cares about either. He is using DSL as his internet connection.

His main concern is to get wifi acess to all three floors and if not possbile atleast on one floor.

Another feature he would like is to have a webcam setup for security which he can view remotely as well.

I have been researching some routers, searching and reading past threads and would appreciate if you can reccomend some as well.

    Thanks!

I set up a 4 building motel using WRT54G routers at each ends of the building, only problem is you have to load Sveasoft or other 3rd party firmware to get them to communicate. Otherwise everything worked great.

Thank you for you reply. I had some across Sveasoft while searching and was wondering what version of it are you using?

Also does Sveasoft work with any version of the WRT54G? Does it offer a splash screen?

I needed to add atleast 2 more access points, any recomendations for that? Should I get the WAP54G? Or is there any firmware to make the WRT54G into an access point as well?

    Thanks again!

Also since I need to more access points, I need them to be wireless since they will be in remote locations. Any recomendations on those? I was looking @ the WAP54GPE. Can the WRT54G be used like that as well?

    Thanks!

If you are looking for a splash page and authentication you might look at running Monowall on the network to handle firewalling and DHCP and Wireless Hotspot auth.

It has all of that and more built into it. It is free and can run on a low end PC just fine. It will let you do QoS at the WAN side to run inconjunction with the LAN (wireless) side as well.

Thanks! See if possible I am trying to run without a PC since there is limited space and would rather have a router only instead.

i run the Sveasoft Alchemy firmware which will turn a WRT54G into an access point.. also DD-WRT is also very effective for this and has more options but less support for the version 1.0 and 1.1 models.
