I have a 3-4 year old laptop and my roommate has a 2 year old laptop. Both use Windows XP. We live in a small apartment, so range isnt all that important. I won't be purchasing a new computer until Windows 7 comes out. Anyways, what would be the best wireless router for my setup? I'm trying to spend the least amount of $$ for the best performance. I know getting a draft n router would be pointless, as our computers dont support it and I dont want to get a seperate card.

Current thoughts: I'm looking at the WRT54G2 vs. WRT54GS on ebay.

    Any help would be appreciated.

If you would like to do some experiments in future like change firmware for 3rd party one's, then DO NOT buy WRT54G2 - it have got only 2MB of flash memory.
If you wanna buy WRT54GS, then you need to find versions from v1.0 up to v4.0. (FLASH from 4 to 8MB)
Newer versions are rubish - they've got only 2MB of FLASH.
You should go for example for WRT54GL - there is 4MB flash.

    That's mine opinion

The network will be used only for browsing the internet, downloading songs, movies, and maybe playing games. I dont need all the bells and whistles because I wont be using it for anything other than the internet. However, I do want speed and reliability for the money. I am looking for something that I will be able to use when I get a new computer in a few years as well.
