    Hi there- first time post

Using a WAG54 V1.2 Router and have upgraded the firmware to the latest I could find (1.09 I believe).

Something already similiar posted before but different program. Am running a wireless network and have someone using Ares on it who wont stop- I dont want the worry of what they are doing and would ideally like to stop them using it.

I dont know what port Ares uses but have been told it may use many- is there anything I can change in the router settings to help?

    Thanks for any possible help

You can't block Ares by using port restrictions. The only way to block Ares is by using pattern matching. There is a good L7 filter for ares.

You can use L7 filters with most third party firmwares for the WRT54G. But I don't know, if there is a firmware for your router, that can do this type of filtering.

Thanks for that although I had never heard of pattern matching before and I have no idea how to use it!

Its interesting though- looks like i have to find some firmware which supports it. Does anyone here know?

Also does it only work for Linux as I am running XP Professional Service Pack 2. Is it a simple download- sorry for the questions but I really am a newbie when it comes to networking
