I have a question reguarding the DD-WRT firmware. I am running a linksys WRT54GS v1.1 and I was curious if I could set up wan ip blocking so it stops unwanted access at the router itself instead of having to set up a software firewall to do this type of blocking?

    iptables -I FORWARD -d -j DROP
This will stop the clients behind the router accessing that IP, but not the router itself (which is exactly what you need).

The original question sounds as if its a request incoming to the wan interface as the reference appears to be router then machine. If that is the case unless you have a port forwarded it should be dropped by default. If you have a port forwarded and you want to block a specific ip then thats another story.
